Are you ready to make a meaningful difference in Māori medium education?
This is a permanent role. The ideal applicant will be based in the North Island. Reporting to the Aho Tāngaengae/ Manager of Te Uepū ā Motu, your focus will be to evaluate the quality of education provided by kura (Kura Kaupapa Māori, Ngā Kura ā Iwi, Kura Motuhake) and kōhungahunga (Kōhanga Reo, Puna Reo) and from these evaluations, prepare reports that are made available to the public.
You will be working in kaupapa Māori learning environments and need a high level of fluency in te reo and tikanga knowledge.

Te Tari Arotake Mātauranga | Education Review Office (ERO) is the government's education evaluation agency. We work to inform and support improvement across early learning services, schools, and kura throughout Aotearoa.

Te Uepū ā-Motu leads national evaluation, licensing, regulatory reviews, and inquiries across Māori-medium and kaupapa Māori education, including kōhanga reo, puna reo and kura.

Mōhou ake | About you
Are you an experienced senior education leader ready for your next challenge. Do you have the skills, experience, and ambition to work with a wide range of kura and communities to improve the quality of education? Do you have the skills and experience to evaluate the quality of teaching and learning in Māori medium settings.
You will bring:
- Strong experience in evaluating teaching and learning in Māori medium settings
- Excellent communication skills in both te reo Māori and English (written and oral)
- A genuine commitment to supporting improvement through thoughtful evaluation and collaboration
We encourage you to share in your cover letter and CV your experience and strengths in any of the following areas:
- Your extensive knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, and Te Whāriki
- Your understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for the education sector and ERO
- Your knowledge of effective pedagogical practices, particularly within Māori medium settings
- Your experience working in Māori medium education settings
- Building and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with kura and communities
- Where you have demonstrated leadership—whether through leading initiatives, problem-solving, or advocating for others
- Your curiosity and openness to new ideas, including your ability to reflect, learn, and apply new perspectives
- Collaborative approaches, including actively seeking and responding to feedback
- Your experience in education leadership roles where evaluation has driven improvement
